How exactly does the focus timer start?

The app uses your phone's built-in sensors (proximity and orientation) to detect when the screen is placed face-down on a flat surface. This action automatically initiates the focus session. Picking the phone up ends it.

Why isn't the timer starting when I flip my phone?

Ensure that:

The phone is completely flat on a table/desk.
The phone screen is entirely face-down.
The app has the necessary sensor permissions (if prompted by your OS).
The proximity sensor (usually near the top speaker) is covered.
